Its a Snow Day!!! Well almost a snow week really.
Of course the photographer in me couldn’t let this opportunity slip by without capturing the days events in pictures. And this time I decided I was going to take photos with a difference. My usual rushed snaps with a ‘can’t really be bothered attitude due to the cold weather’ just wasn’t going to do this time around. Instead this time I was going to master the art of the perfect exposure in an almost pure white scene. This is nothing that the automatic setting on the camera can handle and another aspect that sets casual snappers apart from skilled photographers.
I must say that I am ever so pleased with the results from our snow day photos. Having switched from aperture priority to full manual I managed to get correct exposures about 95% of the time with some stunning results that I will truly cherish for years to come, particularly if this weather really is a freak occurance and doesn’t return for another 18 years. Although it would really be great if we could see the snow return just once each year. Nothing like the Canadian winters I grew up with. Just a taste of it for a little change of atmosphere.
Well I think it is time to get back to real work now. I’ve had enough of a break this week with two of our kids off 3 days this week and one off for just 2. It was worth it though and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
