Headshots for a Beautiful Teenage Girl

Last week I had the opportunity of doing headshots for this gorgeous girl. Its times like these when I really love my job and thoroughly enjoy what I do for a living.  It was like having an afternoon playing. Its the kind of thing that if my daughter were willing (and she most definitely is not) I’d be doing in my free time to practice and play around with light. Working with this lovely young lady was such a joy and she photographed so well.

I’m starting to get more requests for sessions such as these and I’m really glad.  But I would like to clarify something.  If you are interested in getting your child into modelling and you are after images to send to agencies, professional photos is not what you need.  An agency wants to see a natural and unprofessional snapshot. I know that may sound strange but they just want to see if your child is a natural in front of the camera.  They don’t want to see something that may have taken a professional over an hour to create in an ideal environment with endless tools at their disposal.  So don’t waste your money.

If on the other hand your child is auditioning for various jobs or local theater, as this young lady is, you will be asked for up to date headshots.  This is the time when you will want to utilise a professional who will bring out the best in your child using quality light and appropriate posing.  This is not the time for snapshots or anything wacky and wonderful.

During my sessions I take my time and allow my clients to relax and have fun. I am well aware that initially everyone is nervous and it often shows in the photographs. But in time, as the session progresses, it becomes very evident that the quality improves. Throughout the session we take a look at what we are creating so that we can assess and adjust as we go. I’ve also noticed that this builds the confidence of my clients which again gives better results, as was the case in this session as well.

By the end of the session the final images are chosen and I’m left to add the finishing touches to the images before sending them digitally via a download link.  Headshots require very little in the way of editing as the lighting does it all really, however as with every photograph I create I go over my images with a fine tooth comb ensuring all blemishes are removed and the overall image has a polished look.
