Vickie’s Back and More Beautiful than Ever

Last week Vickie returned home to visit family so we took the opportunity to have a play with the lights again. I love using this time to try out things that I wouldn’t want to trial with a client. And I’m glad I did. I was able to create work similar to that which I’ve admired on many occasions, not really being certain how it was created. By taking what I knew about lighting and applying it in a way I suspected would give me the results I wanted I actually produced what I wanted. Imagine that.

For the photographers out there, I used either 1 or 2 lights (started with one then added another) behind Vickie pointing towards her hair but positioned quite close to her so that they were nearly pointing towards the camera also. This produced a slight lens flare that gave that milky coverage that softened the light just how I wanted it.

For those that don’t know, this experimenting and practicing is part of running a photography business. Of course I don’t have to do this but without doing this I wouldn’t be the photographer that I am today. And to be honest, I do this for me so that I can still enjoy being a photographer. I really do love photography. Its my job but its also my hobby. Sure there are times when I want to put the camera down and not worry about creating. But I’m not like the typical builder, plumber, seamstress, or any other profession that often hates bringing their work home. I love the opportunity to do something for me.

I think its time I progressed to the next level now. Playing with lights and posing isn’t enough. Now I need to work on costumes and maybe scenery. One step at a time though. The idea boards are already building. So watch this space.

As you can see here we played with several different looks on this occasion. This session really gave me the chance to have a proper play. I’m looking forward to having Vickie back again. Creativity is one of those things that doesn’t get used up. Instead it grows and gets better the more you use it. So its time I started using it more.
